Reiki Sessions

Reiki is a self-development and healing system that was rediscovered in Japan early last century. Its essence is about moving into a state of more balance in all aspects of our life. 'Reiki' means 'Universal Life Energy'. Eastern medicine, yoga and martial arts have always worked with this energy; it is known as 'Ki' in Japan, as 'Chi' in China, and 'Prana' in India.

A Reiki treatment can unblock tensions, re-balance the energy flow, and open energy channels. This has many benefits on a physical, mental and emotional level. The free flow of energy stimulates the body's own healing potential.

Reiki can be given by slightly touching the body, working in the aura only (no touch), or long-distance. It is a non-invasive therapy with no side-effects or risk of overdose. As it is very gentle and safe, it can be used by all ages, including new-born babies, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, and frail or very ill people. If you visit my End-of-Life page page, you will see that I also offer Reiki for people who live with a terminal diagnosis or go through bereavement.

Reiki and Western Medicine

As a complementary method, Reiki is being used in GP surgeries, hospices, cancer support groups, drug rehabilitation and more. Reiki treatments will support you on your healing journey, but they do not replace the need to seek medical advice if you are feeling worried or unwell. Please also see our Working Principles page.

We also provide Reiki Courses. Please visit the Training Page if interested.

Reiki is good for you if...

  • You feel out of balance
  • You are worn-out and tense and suffer from stress-related illnesses
  • You need energy-support as you are undergoing medical treatment, awaiting surgery or are in recovery
  • You have had a tough week and would like to pamper yourself with a 'massage for your energy system'
  • You need an energy boost for improving a relationship or following through with a personal change (such as adapting your diet, reducing the need for alcohol taking on a new role at work or in your private life ).

What happens in a session?

The first step of every session is making sure you feel comfortable and relaxed. We have a quick chat, then you choose whether you want to sit on a chair or lie on the massage table, whether you want some music, extra blankets or pillows. There is no need to remove any clothing.

I will then put my hands gently in a series of positions - on or over your body (I will never touch your face or genital area, and you can choose whether I work with my hands touching your body, or a few inches away).

In some positions, I will remain for a while, in others, I will move on quite quickly. You may just relax and don't have to worry about the timing and intensity at all: Your energy system will draw in as much Reiki as it needs, using it in whatever way is most appropriate.

Reiki may be felt as a flow of energy, a mild tingling, warmth, coolness, or other sensations. Some clients feel nothing at all, but this does not mean the session has not worked - we are all different regarding our experiencing energy.
After the session, you will feel relaxed and calm, and may want to rest for a while. It is a good idea not to schedule something very active right after the session.

Usui / Japanese Reiki

Picture
Reiki's original version was created by Mikao Usui (1865-1926). Rooted in Tendai Buddhism and Shintoism, it served as a spiritual path and self-development method. Students would spend time meditating, studying ancient poetry and exploring the use of the Reiki in their lives. Other people would be treated with Reiki - the way to do this was simple and intuitive.

When Usui's students brought Reiki to the West, the treatment of others came more and more into focus. Reiki became more structured, with some additional hand positions, rules and rituals. Some practitioners added their own methods, which led to a variety of Reiki systems: Angelic Reiki, Crystal Reiki etc.

I am trained in 'Western Reiki' and I explored traditional Japanese Reiki in my Continuous Professional Development. I aim to be close to Usui's original system, as I consider it effective, simple and focused. For example, when teaching Reiki, I use both the Western attunements and the original empowerments (Reiju).

Karuna Reiki

I am also a certified practitioner and teacher of Karuna© Reiki, which is helpful for specific emotional and mental issues. Karuna means 'compassionate action' (Sanskrit). The system was developed by William Lee Rand and other healers at the International Centre for Reiki Training. They channelled additional Reiki symbols and then experimented with them to explore their potential.

The symbols enable the practitioner to activate healing energy with different frequencies and channel the energy to the client with targeted intent. For example, there are symbols that guide Reiki energy to intensify intuition, to help with addictions, or to heal deep sitting psychological wounds. The power of the symbols is intensified by chanting and toning.

In addition to hands-on work, this Reiki system offers other healing methods, such as the Shadow Self Meditation. This is a mental 'journey' to go and meet your Shadow Self, to give it some Reiki. Through this 'compassionate action' you can restore the balance in yourself. Karuna© Reiki is very spiritual and many practitioners who use it feel strong connections to enlightened beings.

Gift Certificates

Regular Reiki sessions are a lovely practice, even if you don't have a 'burning issue'. They can bring joy and balance, and help ward-off illnesses, stress and fatigue.
As a 'massage for the energy system', a series of sessions might be a meaningful gift for yourself or for others.
